I discovered Bashiri Asad thanks to music lover and professional talent finder DJ Come Of Age, and I really liked his music straight away. His motto ‘Music is my weapon of choice’ appeals to me as I am always happy to get in touch with like-minded, fellow music lovers or music makers.
What strikes me first is his voice, very soothing and smooth. He mentions this in his bio, when he says that he has been ‘cultivating a relationship with his voice since childhood’. This is clearly obvious when you listen to his music, and you can’t but be enchanted by the beautiful notes he produces, seemingly without much effort.
Another very important aspect is the production and once again it is perfect, creating a very chilled, sometimes sensual atmosphrere and transporting me to a beautiful world, even making me want to spend some quality time with a special someone…
Finally, the songs deal with different themes, from love to being yourself and embracing all your ‘roles’. The lyrics are very well written and really easy to relate to, which makes it even easier to get into Bashiri’s music and appreciate it.
Bashiri is currently working on a 7-song EP entitled The Electrical Enchantment Suite, coming out on July 6th. His previous project, in collaboration with Pariah Da Poetic, The Heart Spoken Project, came out in 2009 and you can get it from Soundclick.
Now, if I tell you that his influences are people like Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, I guess you are impatient to hear what I am talking about?
